McMicken Dam Spillway
Delineation Study - Surprise & El Mirage, AZ

Client: Flood Control District of Maricopa County
Hoskin Ryan performed spillway inundation studies for flows over the emergency spillway of the McMicken Dam, an earthen dam located northwest of the intersection of Grand Avenue and the Loop 303 Freeway in Surprise, AZ. This detailed study covered a portion of north central Maricopa County, including portions of Surprise and El Mirage. The project management team provided mapping coordination and production, hydrology, and HEC-RAS analysis in combination with flow split and weir flow analyses to identify potential inundation limits. Floodplain delineations were prepared for the overtopping of the one-third, two-thirds and full flow discharges. Existing topographic mapping was supplemented with new aerial mapping for areas surrounding the spillway.
